Capturing Diagnostic Scans on Chairside Scanning

Overview: This article provides instructions for capturing and reviewing diagnostic scans using the Chairside Scanning system to ensure data is processed accurately for clinical use. 

Scanning Procedures and Paths

Follow the recommended scan order to ensure the Chairside Scanning software processes dental data correctly.

Capture the Lower Arch

  1. Follow an occlusal, buccal, and then lingual scan path on the lower arch.

  2. Click Next once the lower arch scan is complete.

Capture the Upper Arch

  1. Follow an occlusal, buccal, and then lingual scan path on the upper arch.

  2. Click Next once the upper arch scan is complete.

Capture Bite Scans

  1. Capture at least four teeth during the bite scan.

  2. Ensure two to three millimeters of gingiva are included in the bite scan.

  3. Click Review Scans to check for missing or distorted data.

  4. If the bite scans do not align automatically, align the bite scans manually. 

Scanning Interface Tools

Use the tools located at the bottom of the scan pages to modify the captured data.

  • Reset: Deletes the entire scan for the current arch.

  • Trim: Removes only the specific area of the scan selected by the user.

  • Lock: Fixes the selected area of the scan in place to prevent further changes.

  • Center: Aligns the current scan to a standard occlusal view.

  • Stone: Converts the scan appearance to a monochromatic stone view.

  • Swap: Trades the current scan data with the data from a selected arch scan.

Scan Review and Analysis Features

Review the completed scans using these viewing options to ensure clinical accuracy.

  • Single: Displays both the upper and lower arches in occlusion.

  • Side by Side: Displays the upper and lower arches individually at the same time.

  • Complete: Displays a combined view of both the Single and Side by Side options.

  • Compare: Places the current scans next to a previous set of completed scans for comparison.

  • Present: Expands the scan view to fill the full screen.

  • Upper and Lower: Toggles the visibility of the individual arches on or off.

  • HD Scans: Enables High Definition viewing for the selected scans.

  • Bite Analysis: Displays a heat map indicating the occlusal clearance levels.

  • Annotate Scans: Allows the user to draw, circle, or add text notes directly onto the scan.
