Overview: Determine when a patient rescan is necessary to correct restoration fit issues such as open margins, contacts, or occlusion.
Indicators for Patient Rescans
Clinical teams should rescan the patient when the original restoration exhibits any of the following physical fit issues:
Open interproximal contact: Gaps between the restoration and adjacent teeth.
Open margins: Visible gaps between the restoration edge and the tooth preparation.
Occlusion issues: The restoration has open occlusion (no contact) or thin occlusion (insufficient material thickness).
Abutment fit: The restoration does not seat properly on the abutment.
Refabrication Without Rescans
While rescans are recommended for the fit issues listed above, Dandy can refabricate orders without a new scan if requested. However, a rescan significantly improves the accuracy of the new restoration.
Guidelines for Aesthetic or Shade Issues
Users do not need to rescan the patient if the only issues are related to shade, design, or aesthetics. For these cases, provide the following clinical images instead of a new scan:
In-mouth photos: Images showing the crown or restoration inside the patient's mouth.
Shade comparisons: Images of the restoration placed next to the desired shade tabs.
Smile guides: A copy of the desired smile guide for aesthetic reference.
