Overview: This guide explains how to perform and review digital waxup, physical waxup, and study model scans using the recommended scan path and diagnostic tools.
Recommended Scan Path
To ensure scanning data processes correctly, capture the arches and bites in the specific order listed below.
Arch Capture Sequence
Lower Arch: Scan the lower arch by following a path from the occlusal surface to the buccal and finally the lingual surfaces. Click Next once the lower arch is complete.
Upper Arch: Scan the upper arch by following a path from the occlusal surface to the buccal and finally the lingual surfaces. Click Next once the upper arch is complete.
Bite Capture: Capture the bite by scanning at least four teeth and 2-3mm of gingival tissue.
Alignment and Validation
Review Scans: Click Review Scans to inspect the data for missing or distorted areas.
-
Manual Alignment: If the bite scans do not align automatically, use the manual alignment tool to connect the bite data to the arches.
Scan Management Tools
Use the tools located at the bottom of the scanning pages to modify the captured data.
Reset Tool: Use the Reset button to delete the entire current scan and start over.
Trim Tool: Use the Trim button to remove a specific, selected area from the scan data.
Lock Tool: Use the Lock button to secure a selected area of the scan so it cannot be altered during further scanning.
Center Tool: Use the Center button to align the 3D scan to a standard occlusal view.
Stone Tool: Use the Stone button to convert the color scan into a monochromatic stone appearance for better margin visibility.
Swap Tool: Use the Swap button to trade the data from the current scan with a different selected arch scan.
Scan Review and Analysis
After capturing the data, use the review suite to analyze the quality and occlusion of the scans.
View Modes
Single View: Click Single to view both the upper and lower arches in their occluded state.
Side by Side View: Click Side by Side to view the upper and lower arches individually at the same time.
Complete View: Click Complete to view a hybrid of the Single and Side by Side views.
Compare View: Click Compare to place the current scans next to a previously completed set of scans for the same patient.
Present View: Click Present to expand the scan viewer to fill the entire screen.
Analysis and Detail Features
Visibility Toggles: Click the Upper or Lower buttons to show or hide the respective arch in the viewer.
High Definition (HD) Scans: Click HD Scans to process the data into a high-definition 3D model.
Occlusal Clearance: Click Clearance to view a heat map indicating the space between the upper and lower arches.
Annotate Scans: Click Annotate Scans to draw, circle, or add text notes directly onto the 3D scan data for lab communication.
