Chairside Partial Denture Scanning

Overview: Learn how to scan partial dentures using the chairside workflow, including recommended scan paths, tool functions, and data review options.

Perform the Partial Denture Scanning Path

To ensure the scanning software processes data correctly, perform the scans in the following order:

  • Lower Arch: Follow an occlusal, buccal, then lingual scan path. Select Next once the arch is complete.

  • Upper Arch: Follow an occlusal, buccal, then lingual scan path. Select Next once the arch is complete.

  • Bites: Capture at least 4 teeth and 2–3mm of gingival tissue to ensure proper alignment.

  • Verification: Select Review Scans to identify any missing or distorted areas.

  • Manual Alignment: If the bite scans do not auto-align, use the manual alignment tool to connect the arches.

Use Scanning Tools

Use the tools located at the bottom of the scan pages to modify the scan data:

  • Reset: Select Reset to delete the entire current scan and start over.

  • Trim: Use Trim to remove only the specific area of the scan that was selected.

  • Lock: Select Lock to fix a selected area of the scan in place to prevent further changes.

  • Center: Use Center to align the scan to a standard occlusal view.

  • Stone: Select Stone to convert the scan appearance to a monochromatic stone view.

  • Swap: Use Swap to trade the current scan data with a selected arch scan.

Navigate Scan Review Options

Review the completed scan data using these viewing modes:

  • Single: View both the upper and lower arches together in occlusion.

  • Side by Side: View the upper and lower arches individually and simultaneously.

  • Complete: View a combination of the Single and Side by Side perspectives.

  • Compare: Compare the current scans next to a previous set of completed scans.

  • Present: View the scans in full-screen mode for detailed inspection.

  • Upper and Lower: Select these buttons to hide or show specific arches during the review.

  • HD Scans: View the captured scans in High Definition for better detail.

  • Annotate Scans: Use this tool to draw, circle, or add text directly onto the scan data.
