Chairside Immediate Denture Scanning Workflow

Overview: This article provides instructions for capturing and reviewing intraoral scans specifically for immediate denture workflows within the Chairside platform.

Capture Scans for Immediate Dentures

To ensure the Chairside software processes data correctly, perform the scanning steps in the following order:

Scanning Paths

  1. Lower Arch: Follow an occlusal, buccal, and then lingual scan path. Click Next when the scan is complete.

  2. Upper Arch: Follow an occlusal, buccal, and then lingual scan path. Click Next when the scan is complete.

  3. Bite Scans: Capture at least four teeth and 2-3mm of gingiva to ensure proper alignment.

  4. Review: Click Review Scans to identify missing or distorted data.

  5. Alignment: Align bite scans manually if the Chairside software does not auto-align the arches.

Scan Page Control Tools

  • Reset: Use this tool to delete the entire current scan.

  • Trim: Use this tool to remove only a specific selected area of the scan.

  • Lock: Use this tool to fix a selected area in place to prevent further changes.

  • Center: Use this tool to align the scan to a standard occlusal view.

  • Stone: Use this tool to convert the scan view to a monochromatic stone appearance.

  • Swap: Use this tool to trade the current scan with a different selected arch scan.


Review and Finalize Scanning Data

After capturing the arches, use the Review suite to verify scan quality before submission.

Scan Review Viewing Modes

  • Single: View both upper and lower arches in occlusion.

  • Side by Side: View the upper and lower arches individually at the same time.

  • Complete: View a combination of the Single and Side by Side views.

  • Compare: View the current scans next to a previously completed set of scans.

  • Present: Open the scan view in full-screen mode.

  • Upper/Lower: Toggle these buttons to view or hide specific arches.

  • HD Scans: View the captured scans in High Definition.

  • Annotate Scans: Use this tool to draw, circle, or add text notes directly onto the digital scan.

Final Actions

  • Start Ordering: Select this to proceed with placing the denture order.

  • Rescan Arch: If a scan is poor, click A Scan Looks Bad? Re-scan It and select the Pencil Icon next to the specific arch.

  • Share with Patient: 

    • Confirm the practice information if this is your first time sharing scans
    • Write a short message to your patient explaining the situation
    • Add any additional context
    • Choose to send via link, printout, or QR code 
    • Click “Share”
