Overview: This article provides the indications, risks, and clinical directions for the use and maintenance of Dandy 3D printed dentures. It serves as the official Instructions for Use (IFU) for dental professionals.
Dandy’s final dentures (partials and full) are designed/fabricated using digital technology (some partials are fabricated by hand), allowing for a precise fit and customization to the patient's specific needs. They are made of highly durable and biocompatible materials, ensuring long-term comfort and function.
Indications for Use
Dandy Dentures are removable prostheses intended to replace missing natural teeth and oral structures. These dentures are indicated for both fully edentulous and partially edentulous patients who require prosthetic restoration.
Contraindications
Do not use Dandy dentures in patients with any of the following conditions:
Uncontrolled periodontal disease
Severe residual ridge resorption
Untreated oral lesions
Known hypersensitivity to methacrylate monomers, acrylic, or PMMA-based materials
Potential Risks and Benefits of Dentures
Risks (all types):
- Gingival irritation, mucosal soreness, ulceration
- Poor adaptation may cause instability or trauma
- Allergic response to base or teeth materials
Benefits:
- Restores oral function, speech, mastication, and esthetics
- Digitally fabricated for precision fit and reduced chair time
-
Material-specific advantages:
- HIPA: High-impact resistance, lifelike esthetics
- 199 Resin: Lightweight, digitally accurate
- PMMA: Seamless monolithic
Clinical Insertion Protocol
To ensure a proper fit, dental professionals should follow these insertion steps:
Prepare Oral Tissue: Clean the patient's oral tissues with a soft-bristle brush or rinse.
Guide Insertion: Hold the denture by the edges and insert it using a gentle rocking motion.
Partial Denture Placement: For partial dentures, use fingers to guide the appliance into position without excessive force.
Seat the Appliance: Instruct the patient to bite and swallow to seat the denture. For partials, have the patient bite down gently to ensure stability.
Assess Retention: Use adhesive if the initial retention is insufficient.
Adjust Occlusion: Use carbon articulation paper to identify and adjust heavy occlusion points.
Adjustment and Maintenance Guidelines
When adjusting the denture material, adhere to these technical standards:
Tool Selection: Use high-speed rotary instruments with light pressure.
Temperature Control: Maintain material temperature using water and air spray to prevent micro-fractures caused by dry adjustments.
Material Specifics:
HIPA: Adjust with cooling to preserve resin integrity.
199 Resin: Adjust gently to avoid material delamination.
PMMA: Use carbide burs and polish for a smooth finish.
Daily Cleaning and Storage
Patients must clean dentures daily before and after every use to maintain biocompatibility.
Initial Rinse: Use warm water (below 45°C/113°F) and soft, liquid, antibacterial dish soap to remove saliva and debris.
Cleaning Agents: Use a soft-bristle brush with approved solutions like Polident or Efferdent for 10–15 minutes.
Prohibited Substances: Do not use chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, mouthwash, or alcohol, as these damage the denture material.
Storage: When not in use, store the denture in a clean, dry place away from excessive heat or pressure.
Additional Information
- Clinical studies have shown final dentures to be an effective and reliable treatment option for patients with missing teeth.
- If the patient experiences any adverse events, such as pain or irritation, they should discontinue use and contact your practice immediately.
- Final dentures have a limited warranty, which may vary depending on the manufacturer.
- Smoking with the dentures inserted can cause discoloration

Disposal
- Denture disposal typically involves handling it as a regulated biohazardous waste or general waste, often through specialized handlers for incineration or secure landfill disposal.
- Always avoid putting them in regular trash without checking local rules.
- Biohazard/Infectious Waste: Treat used or unclaimed dentures as biohazardous due to saliva/blood; use red bags and authorized carriers.
- Incineration: A common method for final destruction.
- Metal Recovery: If the denture has precious metals (gold/silver), return it to a dental lab or scrap refiner for recycling, as it can be profitable and prevents pollution.
-
Confidentiality: Redact or destroy patient info on lab boxes and bases before disposal.
