Overview: AI Scan Review in Dandy Chairside provides real-time artificial intelligence analysis of dental prep scans to identify undercuts and insufficient occlusal clearance. Use this feature to validate prep quality and reduce restoration remakes while the patient is in the chair.
Understand AI Scan Review Functionality
AI Scan Review runs automatically once a prep scan is completed in Dandy Chairside. The system analyzes the prep in under 30 seconds to flag potential fit issues.
The AI system performs the following actions:
Analyzes the prep for margin undercuts.
Checks for material-specific occlusal clearance.
Highlights problem areas directly on the 3D model with purple shading.
Provides step-by-step guidance to resolve detected issues.
Identify and Resolve Potential Margin Undercuts
If the AI detects a potential margin line undercut, a "Potential margin line undercut" alert appears in the AI Scan Review panel on the right side of the screen.
To resolve an undercut alert, select the Undercut Tool to access these options:
Refine Margin: Open the Margin Tool to adjust the AI-generated margin line.
Adjust Path of Insertion: Modify the Path of Insertion (POI) to clear the undercut.
Refine Prep: Re-prep the tooth and re-scan the area.
Proceed As-Is: Continue with the current scan and optionally add a reduction coping during checkout.
Identify and Resolve Insufficient Clearance
When the AI detects a clearance issue, it displays the alert "Not enough clearance - Reduce prep to ensure fit".
To resolve clearance issues:
Select Review in Clearance Tool.
Review the heat map showing where the prep lacks necessary space for the chosen material (e.g., Zirconia or eMax).
Reduce the prep or adjust the opposing dentition as clinically necessary.
Verify Lab-Ready Scans
If the AI detects no issues, a green verification banner confirms the scan is lab-ready. You may then proceed to checkout with confidence that the prep meets Dandy’s fabrication criteria.
Supported Crown Indications
AI Scan Review currently supports single-unit posterior crowns for the following tooth numbers:
Upper Arch: 1–5, 12–16
Lower Arch: 17–21, 28–32
- Materials: All supported posterior crown materials. Future updates will expand support to other indications and restorative workflows.
