Overview: Learn how to manage fixed restorations, including indications, cementation protocols for Zirconia and E.max, and patient maintenance guidelines.
Fixed Restoration Indications
Dandy's fixed restorations restore worn, carious, or broken dentition. These devices:
Restore single permanent teeth (crowns).
Replace missing permanent teeth (bridges).
Provide occlusal stability.
Restore the form, function, and esthetics of natural dentition.
Regulatory Safety Warnings
Sensitivity Warning: This device contains trace levels of cobalt and chromium oxides. Inform patients with cobalt or chromium allergies before treatment.
Irritation Warning: Localized irritation of oral tissues may occur. Monitor patients post-placement for inflammation or discomfort.
Zirconia Cementation and Adjustment
Follow these steps for Zirconia restorations:
Pretreatment: Use air-particle abrasion and tribochemical silica coating.
Sanitization: Sandblast and steam-sanitize the restoration.
Bonding: Apply zirconia-specific primers containing 10-MDP.
Adjustment: Use a fine-grit diamond bur at high speed with water and air spray to prevent micro-fractures.
E.max Cementation Protocol
IPS E.max restorations offer versatile cementation options:
Crowns and Bridges: Use adhesive, self-adhesive, or conventional methods.
Inlays and Veneers: Use adhesive cementation exclusively.
Preparation: Etch lithium disilicate restorations before placement and silanize for adhesive methods.
Metal and PFM Cementation
Metal restorations require air abrasion with alumina particles to enhance adhesion. Refer to the specific Full Metal and PFM Guidelines for detailed adjustment recommendations.
Patient Daily Care
Advise patients on these cleaning habits:
Brushing: Brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
Flossing: Floss daily. Use a floss threader for bridges to reach under the pontic.
Diet: Limit hard, crunchy, or sticky foods that may loosen the restoration.
Additional Information
- If the patient experiences any adverse events, such as pain or irritation, they should contact your practice immediately.
- Fixed restorations have a limited warranty, which may vary depending on the manufacturer.
- Smoking with restorations can cause discoloration
Disposal Procedures
Disposal depends on the restoration material:
Metal or Precious Metal (PFM, Gold): Return Dandy restorations containing precious metals to Dandy or a specialized dental scrap refiner.
All-Ceramic (Porcelain): Dispose of porcelain in regular garbage or at a specialized construction debris recycling center.
