Equipment Setup: Cart, Dandy Trios Wired & Wireless Scanners, and Laptop

Overview: Learn how to assemble your equipment cart, configure the laptop, and connect your Dandy Trios scanner to prepare for training.

Prerequisites

  • Assembly Assistance: Dandy recommends two people for the equipment cart assembly.

  • Power Access: Ensure a wall outlet is available for the laptop and wall-powered scanner variants.

  • Time Requirement: Complete these steps at least 72 hours before your scheduled Launch Training.

Assemble the Equipment Cart

Follow these steps to build the H-shaped mobile workstation:

  1. Secure the Wheels: Insert the four wheels into the H-shaped base and tighten them using a wrench.

  2. Attach the Pole: Connect the vertical pole to the base using four long screws and washers. Tighten the screws with the provided Allen wrench.

  3. Install the Printer Tray: Attach the smaller bracket to the bottom shelf using short screws, then secure the shelf to the pole at your preferred height.

  4. Attach the Keyboard Tray: Fix the larger bracket to the keyboard tray and secure the tray to the pole.

  5. Mount the Basket: Secure the storage basket to the back of the pole.

  6. Finalize Assembly: Place the protective cover on the top of the pole.

Configure the Laptop

Set up the laptop to prepare for the Chairside software installation:

  1. Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet and the laptop.

  2. Power On: Turn on the laptop and connect the Dell laptop to a stable Wi-Fi network.

  3. Maintain Charge: Keep the laptop connected to power during use, as the scanner requires significant battery resources.

Connect the Dandy Trios Wired Scanner

Identify your scanner’s power configuration before beginning the connection process.

  • Two gray calibration adaptors
  • Cables for power and data

Wall-Powered Scanner Setup

Follow these steps if your Dandy Trios scanner includes a standard wall plug:

  1. Position the Base: Place the scanner base on the cart.

  2. Connect the Wand: Insert the scanner wand into the base, aligning the red dots on the cable and base.

  3. Establish Power: Plug the power cable into a wall outlet and the scanner base. Confirm the green light on the base is illuminated.

  4. Connect to Laptop: Plug the ethernet cable directly from the scanner base into the Dell laptop.

USB-Powered Scanner Setup

Follow these steps if your Dandy Trios scanner uses a USB-C cable for power:

  1. Position the Base: Place the scanner base on the cart.

  2. Connect to Laptop: Plug the USB-C cable from the scanner directly into the Dell laptop to provide power and data transfer.

Connect the Dandy Trios Wireless Scanner

  • Battery charger
  • Batteries (3)
  • Scan tips
    • 1 Autoclavable Mirror Tip (100 cycles)
    • 25 Single-Use Mirror Tips
  • Scanner wand
  • Scanner battery charger power cable
  • Scanner base

  • TP-Link Wireless Adapter
  • USB dongle (plug into laptop)

Assemble Scanner Hardware

Follow these steps to prepare the scanner hardware for use:

  1. Connect Battery Power: Plug the battery charger power cable into the battery charger and a standard wall outlet.

  2. Prepare Batteries: Remove the protective tape from the metal contacts on each battery.

  3. Charge Batteries: Place two batteries into the battery charger. A battery is fully charged when all five LED lights on the battery surface are illuminated.

  4. Position Equipment: Place the scanner pod on a stable workspace and rest the scanner wand inside the pod.

  5. Install Wireless Adapter: Plug the TP-Link wireless adapter into a USB port on the laptop. If necessary, use the included USB hub.

  6. Restart System: Restart the laptop once the TP-Link adapter and the small green USB dongle are both connected.

Connect Scanner to Chairside Software

Once the hardware is assembled, link the scanner to the software:

  1. Disconnect Wired Equipment: If a Dandy Trios Wired scanner is currently connected, unplug that wired scanner from the laptop.

  2. Open Connection Settings: Open the Dandy Chairside application and select the option labeled Using a Dandy Trios Wireless? Connect.

  3. Identify Scanner: Enter the scanner serial number (found on the device, preceded by "SN") and assign an office name for the scanner.

  4. Insert Battery: Remove one charged battery from the charger and insert the battery into the base of the scanner wand.

  5. Confirm Connection: Press Continue in the software. The Dandy Trios Wireless should now appear as the "Selected scanner".

Complete the Guided Chairside Setup

Finalize your account information through the pre-installed software:

  1. Open Chairside: Locate and open the "Chairside" program on the Dell laptop desktop.

  2. Follow Walkthrough: Complete the in-app prompts for billing information, delivery address, and staff pre-training forms.

  3. Calibrate Scanner (If necessary): Select "Set up scanner" within Chairside to view illustrated cord configurations and perform scanner calibration.

Verify Software and Equipment Readiness

Perform these final checks before clinical use:

  1. Select Profile: Open Dandy Chairside and select the appropriate doctor profile previously created in the Dandy Portal.

  2. Check Status Light: Verify the scanner status by looking for a green light indicator in the software.

  3. Sterilize Equipment: Sterilize the scanner wand and mirror tips according to standard protocols. Note: Do not apply CaviCide wipes to the mirror tips.
