Scan Nightguards and Sportsguards in Chairside

Overview: This article provides step-by-step instructions for performing chairside scans for nightguards and sportsguards, including how to use interface tools and review scan data.

Capture Intraoral Scans

Follow the specific sequence below to ensure the Chairside software processes data correctly.

  1. Lower Arch: Scan the lower arch following an occlusal, buccal, and then lingual scan path. Select Next once the scan is complete.

  2. Upper Arch: Scan the upper arch following an occlusal, buccal, and then lingual scan path. Select Next once the scan is complete.

  3. Bites: Capture the bite by scanning at least four teeth and 2-3mm of gingival tissue.

  4. Review: Select Review Scans to identify missing data or distorted areas.

  5. Alignment: If the bite scans do not align automatically, users must align bite scans manually.

Utilize Scanning Tools

Use the tools located at the bottom of the scanning pages to refine the captured data.

  • Reset: Select Reset to delete the entire current scan.

  • Trim: Use the Trim tool to remove only a specific selected area of the scan.

  • Lock: Select Lock to freeze a selected area of the scan in place.

  • Center: Use Center to align the scan to a standard occlusal view.

  • Stone: Toggle Stone to convert the color scan into a monochromatic stone appearance.

  • Swap: Select Swap to trade the current scan data with a different selected arch scan.

Review Captured Scan Data

The Chairside software provides multiple viewing modes to verify scan quality before submission.

  • Single View: Select Single to view both the upper and lower arches in occlusion.

  • Side by Side: Select Side by Side to view the upper and lower arches as individual, separate models.

  • Complete View: Select Complete to see a combined view of the Single and Side by Side modes.

  • Compare: Select Compare to view the current intraoral scans next to a previously completed set of scans.

  • Clearance Map: Select Clearance to view a heat map displaying the occlusal clearance between the arches.

  • Annotate: Select Annotate Scans to draw or add text directly onto the digital model.

Share Scans with Patients

Clinicians can share the digital models with patients via several methods.

  1. Select Share Scans With Patient.

  2. Verify the dental practice information (required for first-time users).

  3. Enter a short message or additional context for the patient.

  4. Select a delivery method: Link, Printout, or QR code.

  5. Select Share to finalize the delivery.
