Your dental health can provide important insights into your overall well-being—including your sleep. During a routine dental visit, your dentist may identify signs of sleep apnea and recommend a simple, at-home testing process.
The Dandy Sleep Program makes it easy to get tested, receive a diagnosis, understand your insurance coverage, and, if appropriate, begin treatment with a custom oral appliance.
Throughout the process, you'll have support from a dedicated Dandy Patient Coordinator who will help guide you through each step.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
During your dental exam, your dentist may identify signs or symptoms associated with sleep apnea, such as:
- Tooth grinding or excessive tooth wear
- Airway concerns
- Tongue size or positioning
- Snoring
- Daytime fatigue
If appropriate, your dentist may recommend an at-home sleep test.
What Happens Next?
During the same appointment, your dentist may:
- Capture a digital scan of your teeth and bite
- Provide you with a sleep test ring for future testing
Capturing records early helps avoid additional appointments if treatment is recommended later.
Step 2: Getting Started with Your Sleep Test
After your dentist submits your sleep test case, a Dandy Patient Coordinator will contact you to:
- Explain the process
- Answer any questions
- Collect required documentation
- Verify your insurance benefits
Information You'll Need to Provide
Please upload the following through Dandy's secure portal:
- Driver's license or other identification
- Medical insurance card
Once your information is received, Dandy will verify your insurance benefits and estimate any potential out-of-pocket costs.
Step 3: Complete Your At-Home Sleep Study
Once onboarding is complete, you'll receive instructions and credentials to create your SleepImage account and begin testing.
Setting Up Your Sleep Study
- Download the SleepImage app
- Create your account using the information provided
- Charge your sleep test ring
- Pair the ring with the app
- Follow the in-app instructions
Taking the Test
- Wear the ring for one night while you sleep
- The ring records sleep data through the SleepImage app
- Your results are securely transmitted for clinical review
Step 4: Diagnosis & Treatment Review
After your sleep study is complete, your results are reviewed by a board-certified Sleep Medicine physician.
Receiving Your Diagnosis
Most diagnoses are available within approximately 48 hours of study completion.
You will receive information about:
- Your diagnosis
- Recommended treatment options
- Insurance coverage information
- Estimated out-of-pocket costs
Will I Need a Telehealth Appointment?
Not always.
Many patients receive their diagnosis without needing to meet with a physician. However, some insurance plans require a virtual consultation before treatment can move forward.
If your insurance requires telehealth, Dandy will coordinate the appointment at no additional cost to you.
Step 5: Insurance Approval & Treatment Decision
If oral appliance therapy is recommended and you choose to move forward with treatment:
- Dandy will complete any required insurance authorizations
- Your dentist will review the treatment plan with you
- Your custom oral appliance will be ordered
You'll receive a clear estimate of any expected out-of-pocket costs before treatment begins.
Step 6: Custom Device Creation
Your custom Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD) is manufactured specifically for you using the scans captured by your dentist.
Timeline
Most appliances are manufactured and delivered within approximately 2–3 weeks.
Step 7: Final Fitting & Treatment
Once your appliance arrives, you'll return to your dental office for a delivery appointment.
During this visit:
- Your dentist will fit and adjust the appliance
- Instructions for use and care will be reviewed
- You'll return the sleep test ring
- Any remaining patient payment will be collected by the dental office
You'll then begin treatment and start your journey toward better sleep.
