Overview: Learn how to perform accurate bite scans for patients with and without dentition during the denture workflow in Chairside.
Prerequisites
Completed intraoral or extraoral scans of the patient’s arches in the Chairside denture workflow.
Bite registration material (such as blue mousse) for edentulous patients.
Scan Procedures for Patients With Dentition
Follow these steps when the patient has existing teeth to ensure an accurate bite registration:
Ask the patient to open their mouth.
Insert the scanner into the mouth, using the scanner tip as a cheek retractor.
Instruct the patient to close their mouth into occlusion.
Activate the scanner in the second molar area.
Use an up-and-down brushing motion to move the scanner slowly toward the midline.
Deactivate the scanner once the midline is reached.
Select Bite 2 in the Chairside software.
Repeat this process on the opposite side of the mouth.
Scan Procedures for Patients Without Dentition
Use the following protocols for patients using wax bite rims:
Single Arch Wax Bite Rim
Apply blue mousse or a preferred bite registration material to the wax bite rim.
Place the wax bite rim in the patient's mouth.
Scan from the molar area to the midline on both the left and right sides.
Dual Arch Wax Bite Rim
You have two options for scanning dual wax bite rims:
Option 1 (Extraoral): Place both arches in occlusion outside of the mouth. Scan the full arch from molar to molar using bite registration material.
Option 2 (Intraoral): Place the rims in the patient's mouth. Scan from the molar area to the midline on both the left and right sides.
Important: Always apply a wash impression to the wax rims. Keep the wash attached to the wax rim for the entire scanning process to maintain accuracy.
