Overview: Learn how to manage, place, and maintain Dandy’s digitally fabricated metal crowns, including clinical indications, cementation steps, and patient care instructions.
Digital fabrication and durability
Dandy’s metal crowns use digital technology to ensure a precise fit and customization for specific patient needs. These crowns consist of highly durable, biocompatible materials to provide long-term comfort and dental function.
Indications for use
Metal crowns restore the form, function, and aesthetics of natural dentition. Use metal crowns to:
Restore single, permanent teeth that are fractured, carious, discolored, or severely worn.
Replace missing permanent teeth by spanning edentulous spaces with support from dental implants.
Provide occlusal stability and maintain proper interarch relationships.
Contraindications and safety warnings
Caution: Evaluate patients with uncontrolled periodontal disease, oral lesions, or severe bone resorption before using crowns.
Warning – Metal Sensitivity: This device contains metal, including nickel. Clinicians must inform patients with known metal allergies or sensitivities about these compounds before treatment. Rare allergic reactions may occur in sensitized individuals.
Warning – Tissue Irritation: Localized irritation of surrounding oral tissues may occur. Clinicians should monitor patients post-placement for signs of inflammation or discomfort.
Restoration and cementation steps
Follow these steps to ensure proper adaptation of the metal crown:
Test the fit: Verify the fit and aesthetics of the restoration in the patient's mouth.
Verify margins: Take an X-ray if margins are not visible to confirm proper adaptation.
Adjust high spots: Use articulating paper to mark and adjust high spots.
Prepare the crown: Perform air abrasion on the metal crown using alumina particles to enhance cement adhesion.
Adjustment recommendations
To prevent micro-fractures and maintain temperature, operate the bur at high speed with continuous water and air spray.
Tools: Use a fine-grit diamond bur. Avoid air-only handpiece adjustments.
Occlusal and lingual surfaces: Use a football-shaped bur.
Buccal and lingual surfaces: Use a tapered bur.
Daily cleaning and hygiene
Advise patients to maintain the following oral hygiene routine:
Brushing: Brush twice daily using fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush.
Flossing: Floss daily to remove debris around the restoration. Use a floss threader for bridges.
Mouthwash: Avoid alcohol-based mouthwashes, as these can dry the mouth and increase plaque buildup.
Dietary and habit guidelines
Avoid abrasive foods: Limit hard, sticky, or crunchy foods that may loosen the restoration.
Avoid sugary foods: Sugar can cause decay at the restorative margins.
Hydration: Drink plenty of water to prevent gum disease.
Prevent damage: Do not use teeth to bite hard objects or open packages.
Additional Information
- If the patient experiences any adverse events, such as pain or irritation, they should contact your practice immediately.
- Fixed restorations have a limited warranty, which may vary depending on the manufacturer.
- Smoking with restorations can cause discoloration
Disposal of metal restorations
Dandy requires the return of restorations containing precious metals that need refabrication.
Precious metals: Recycle through specialized refineries or scrap dealers.
Non-precious metals: These do not need to be returned to Dandy. Dispose of these through scrap metal dealers or local sanitation guidelines. Never dispose of dental restorations in regular trash.
