Sales Tax and Exemptions

Overview: This article explains how sales tax is applied to Dandy orders and the process for submitting tax exemption certificates.

Understanding Sales Tax Collection

Dandy collects sales tax on goods and services in compliance with state and local laws where those items are taxable. Because regulations vary by jurisdiction, the taxability of specific items and services changes depending on your location.

Calculating Sales Tax

Sales tax is calculated using the following criteria:

  • Shipping Address: The specific destination of the order.

  • Local Rates: Applicable city, county, and state tax rates for that address.

Sales tax is calculated at the time of invoicing and is clearly displayed on the final invoice.

Taxable Items and Services

While tax laws vary by location, sales tax may be applied to the following "additional items" beyond standard lab work:

  • Rush shipping fees

Credit card processing fees

  • Single-use items (such as models, wax-ups, or surgical guides)

  • Professional services

Managing Tax Exemptions

If you are a tax-exempt entity or a reseller, you must provide documentation to avoid sales tax charges.

Submit an Exemption Certificate

To update your account to tax-exempt status, email a valid sales tax exemption certificate for your jurisdiction to SalesTaxExemption@meetdandy.com. You must complete this step before placing an order to ensure the order is processed without tax.

Sales Tax Refunds

Generally, Dandy cannot refund sales tax once it has been collected because the funds are remitted to the government shortly after collection. Once Dandy reviews and approves your certificate, sales tax will not be charged on future orders.
