Overview: Learn how to perform a digital reline workflow to improve denture fit using 360° extraoral scanning without sending the original appliance to the lab.
Denture Reline Overview
A Digital Reline is a chairside workflow that refreshes the fit of an existing denture. Patients keep their current denture throughout the process while Dandy manufactures a new Signature Denture digitally designed to match the patient's current anatomy.
Clinical Indications
Use this workflow for patients experiencing:
- Tissue changes post-delivery.
- Minor discomfort or looseness.
- Re-adaptation requirements after healing.
Step-by-Step Scanning Instructions
Step 1: Scan the Opposing Arch
Perform a standard scan of the opposing dentition to ensure proper occlusion mapping.
Step 2: Perform Extraoral Scan Without Wash
- Remove the denture from the patient's mouth.
- Perform a 360° extraoral scan of the denture without any impression material in place.
- Capture a bite scan with the denture in the mouth to establish the current relationship.
Step 3: Perform Extraoral Scan With Wash
- Apply a light body wash to the intaglio surface of the denture.
- Seat the denture in the patient's mouth to capture the updated tissue anatomy.
- Perform a second 360° extraoral scan with the impression material still in place.
- Submit the case through the Dandy portal.
Step 4: Delivery and Final Fit
Dandy will deliver the new Signature Denture to your office within 5 business days. The patient receives a precision-fit appliance without experiencing downtime away from their original denture.
What You’ll Receive
- A new precision-fit, relined Signature denture
- 5-day turnaround from scan to delivery
Materials Used
- Lucitone Digital Print Resin (Dentsply Sirona), Acrylic, or Milled
Best Practices for Successful Relines
- Impression Technique: Use only a light wash; full border molding is not required for digital relines.
- Scanning Accuracy: Ensure the scanner captures the full borders of the peripheral anatomy.
- Material Integrity: Do not remove the wash material before scanning, as this preserves the anatomical accuracy required for the new intaglio design.
Who is this solution for?
- Doctors with existing Dandy dentures (Final or Reline)
- Doctors with non-Dandy dentures that require relining
- Doctors using Chairside software who want a fast, digital workflow

Reline Types
-
A fully digital reline.
- The existing denture is rescanned and redesigned for a better fit. This process provides a more accurate and longer-lasting result than traditional chairside or lab relines. Soft relines are not supported today — all relines are fabricated as a new hard reline through our digital workflow.
- Updated intaglio anatomy is merged into the original denture design.
Digital Reline Eligibility
-
If the last denture for the patient's x arch was a Final Denture (submitted from a Bite Rim or Copy/Reference flow)
- No limit. You can Reline this denture >0 days from the product being delivered.
- However, if this Denture was relined, you can only reline the Reline
-
If the last denture for the patient's x arch was a Final Denture (submitted from an Immediate Denture flow)
- You can Relined this denture >0 days and <=18 months from the product being delivered
- If this Denture was relined, you can only reline the Reline
-
If the last denture for the patient's x arch was a Reline…
- No limit. You can Reline this relined denture >0 days from the product being delivered
Reline vs. New denture
- A Reline, although a new denture, updates only the intaglio surface. No other design changes are included.
- A New Denture is required if a different material is requested or if design changes are needed.
Denture Rebases
- Dandy does not offer relines for rebases
- If a rebase is needed, a full new denture will need to be ordered
