Overview: This article explains how to identify and resolve slow scanning speeds on Trios wired scanners. These steps apply to scanners used with both the Dandy laptop and the Dandy Cart.
Identify Slow Scanning vs. No Capture
Before troubleshooting, determine if the Trios scanner is slow or not capturing data at all:
Slow Scanning: The scanner clicks slowly without a red rectangle appearing on the screen.
No Capture: The scanner does not pick up images. If no images are captured, refer to the Troubleshoot Dandy Scanner Image Capture Issues article.
Note: Internet connection affects order submission but does not impact the scanner's ability to capture images.
Troubleshoot Scanner Power Source
Low power can cause the Trios scanner to operate slowly.
Restart Equipment: Restart the Chairside software, the Dandy laptop, and the Dandy Cart.
Verify Power Connection: Ensure the laptop or Dandy Cart is plugged into a wall outlet and charging.
Check Battery Level: Confirm the laptop battery is above 50%. Scanning on low battery or while not plugged in reduces speed.
Monitor Cart Battery: Be aware that a Dandy Cart powered only by battery enters a low-power state after approximately 2.5 hours of use.
Monitor Image Count
High image counts can slow down scanning performance.
Check the image count in the top right corner of the Chairside screen.
-
Keep image counts between 2,000 and 3,000 for a full arch scan (single-unit posterior crown).
-
Image count may vary depending on the type of case.

Check System Up Time
A laptop or Dandy Cart that has not been restarted recently may perform poorly.
Right-click on the computer home screen and select Task Manager.
Select the Performance tab.
Locate the Up time value.
-
If the Up time exceeds 48 hours, restart the laptop or Dandy Cart immediately.
