Overview: Learn how to export digital scans from Dandy Chairside software to send to external laboratories.
Please note:
- This feature is only available in the US for qualifying practices
- Practices are limited to 5 exported cases per month
- Orders sent to external labs do not count towards your monthly minimum commitment
Before You Begin
- Your scans must already be captured in your Dandy Chairside software.
- External labs may have different file type preferences. If you are unsure which format to use, check with your lab before exporting.
How to Send Scans Directly to Another Lab in Chairside
1. Navigate to the Order Screen
After completing your scans and reviewing your order, proceed to the Place Order screen.
2. Open the Export Option
On the Place Order screen, click Place order with another lab underneath the green Place Order button.
3. Enter the External Lab Information

1. Navigate to the Order Screen
After completing your scans and reviewing your order, proceed to the Place Order screen.
2. Open the Export Option
On the Place Order screen, click Place order with another lab underneath the green Place Order button.
3. Enter the External Lab Name
A pop-up will appear asking for the reason for your scan export, which lab you would like to send your scans to, their email address, and any instructions you would like the external lab to see.
Fill out each field and then click Download Files Only in the lower center of the pop-up.
4. Choose Your Export Format
Select one of the following export options:
.3oxz - Scans + Order Preferences
This option exports:
- Intraoral scans
- Bite scans
- Order details and preferences
This format is best if the external lab supports .3oxz files and would benefit from receiving your case setup information.
.zip - Scans Only
This option exports scan files only. This format is best if the external lab only requires the raw scan data.
5. Export the File
Once you’ve entered the lab name and selected a format, click Export. Your file will begin downloading to your computer.
Sending the File to Your External Lab
After the export is complete, manually send the downloaded file to your external lab using their preferred method (email, upload portal, file transfer service, etc.).
