The Dandy Sleep Program helps dental practices identify, diagnose, and treat patients with obstructive sleep apnea through a streamlined workflow. Your team focuses on screening, scanning, and delivering treatment while Dandy manages patient onboarding, insurance verification, sleep testing, diagnosis coordination, patient communication, and medical billing support.
You screen, scan, and deliver—we handle the rest.
Getting Started
After enrolling in the Dandy Sleep Program, you'll receive a Sleep Starter Kit that includes:
- Sleep test rings
- Marketing materials
- Training resources
- George Gauge and accessories
Before seeing patients, review the training materials, set up your marketing materials, and ensure all sleep test rings are charged and ready for use.
Step 1: Identify Potential Sleep Apnea Patients
Begin screening patients during routine exams for common signs and symptoms of sleep apnea, including:
- Scalloped tongue
- Excessive tooth wear or grinding
- Recessed lower jaw
- Airway concerns
- Snoring
- Daytime fatigue
If a patient presents with potential symptoms, ask simple screening questions such as:
- "Has anyone ever told you that you snore?"
- "Do you wake up feeling tired?"
When sleep apnea is suspected, offer the patient a complimentary at-home sleep test.
Step 2: Capture Records and Submit the Sleep Test Case
Before the patient leaves, capture records for a future Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD). Collecting records at this stage helps avoid an additional appointment if treatment is recommended.
Required Records
- Full upper arch scan, including the palate
- Full lower arch scan, including the retromolar pads
- Left and right protrusive bite registrations using a George Gauge
For the starting position, you may:
- Capture the patient's maximum protrusion and allow Dandy to subtract 4 mm, or
- Submit your preferred starting position
Once records are complete, submit the sleep test case through Chairside. This step activates the sleep testing process and notifies Dandy to begin working with the patient.
Step 3: Patient Onboarding and Insurance Verification
After the case is submitted, a dedicated Dandy Patient Coordinator contacts the patient to:
- Explain the process
- Collect required forms and documentation
- Gather identification and insurance information
- Answer questions
- Guide the patient through next steps
Once all required information is received, Dandy:
- Verifies insurance benefits
- Determines coverage eligibility
- Estimates the patient's out-of-pocket costs
- Identifies any payer-specific requirements
Insurance verification typically takes 2–3 business days.
Throughout the process, the Patient Coordinator remains in contact with the patient to help complete any outstanding requirements and keep the case moving forward.
Step 4: Sleep Testing and Diagnosis
Once onboarding is complete, Dandy activates the sleep test ring and the patient receives instructions and credentials to create their SleepImage account.
The patient will:
- Download the SleepImage app
- Create an account using the provided credentials
- Pair the sleep test ring
- Complete a one-night sleep study from home
When the study is complete, the results are automatically sent to a board-certified Sleep Medicine physician for review.
If required by the patient's insurance plan, a virtual consultation with a Sleep Medicine physician will be scheduled. Otherwise, the diagnosis is communicated asynchronously.
Dandy then notifies both the practice and the patient of:
- The diagnosis
- Recommended treatment plan
- Insurance coverage details
- Estimated out-of-pocket costs
Step 5: Treatment Acceptance and MAD Ordering
If oral appliance therapy is recommended and the patient chooses to proceed, simply order the MAD through Chairside using the records you already captured.
Insurance Authorization
If required by the patient's insurance plan, Dandy completes any necessary pre-authorizations after diagnosis and before treatment.
Device Cost
- MAD appliance cost: $599
The appliance cost will appear on your monthly Dandy invoice.
Once the order is submitted, Dandy handles insurance claim submission on your behalf.
Step 6: Delivery Appointment
The appliance is manufactured and typically arrives within 2–3 weeks.
At the delivery appointment:
- Fit the appliance
- Collect payment from the patient
- Retrieve the sleep test ring
Step 7: Insurance Reimbursement and Practice Revenue
Insurance reimbursement is sent directly to your practice, typically within 3–6 weeks of claim submission.
Dandy System Fee
A $500 system fee is charged only after:
- The patient accepts treatment, and
- Insurance reimbursement is successfully received
This fee covers:
- Sleep testing
- Physician diagnosis
- Insurance verification
- Pre-authorizations
- Medical billing management
- Ongoing patient coordination
Program Costs
There are two costs associated with a completed treatment case:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| MAD Appliance | $599 |
| Dandy System Fee* | $500 |
*The system fee is only charged after insurance reimbursement is received.
Example Practice Economics
While fees and reimbursements vary by case, Dandy generally recommends billing approximately $2,500 for oral appliance therapy.
| Description | Amount |
| Insurance & Patient Collections | ~$2,500 |
| MAD Appliance Cost | -$599 |
| Dandy System Fee | -$500 |
| Estimated Practice Profit | ~$1,400 |
Actual reimbursement and profitability will vary based on payer, geography, and patient coverage.
