Overview: This article provides essential information for practices switching from a legacy scanner (such as 3Shape Trios) to the Dandy Vision system. To ensure a smooth transition and prevent data loss, follow these guidelines before setting up your new hardware.
System Database and Software Platform Changes
The Dandy Vision system operates on a completely separate software platform from the 3Shape TRIOS system software. After the system transition is complete, the dental practice will begin operations with a brand-new patient list within the Dandy Vision system software.
Dental practices will lose all access to the TRIOS Chairside software following the system transition.
The Dandy Vision system utilizes an entirely separate patient database from the TRIOS system database.
Patient lists will not automatically transfer from the TRIOS system database to the Dandy Vision system database.
Historical TRIOS system scan data is completely unavailable within the Dandy Vision system software.
Understanding what you can and cannot do after switching to Dandy Vision is critical for workflow management.
You Can | You Cannot |
|---|---|
| Submit new cases using the Dandy Vision scanner. | Submit scans captured (but not submitted) on your old scanner. |
| View historical submitted scans in the Dandy Portal. | Continue scanning an existing case started on a different wand. |
| Upload refab scans directly into the new Vision & Cart system. | Transfer "in-progress" scan data between systems. |
| Communicate with the lab on previously submitted orders. | Re-open unsubmitted Trios files within the Vision software. |
Workflow Limitations and Case Transfers
Dental practices cannot begin a patient scan on the TRIOS system and complete that same patient scan on the Dandy Vision system.
Patient scans and active, in-progress cases do not transfer between the TRIOS system and the Dandy Vision system.
The TRIOS system and the Dandy Vision system operate entirely independently of one another.
Mandatory Actions Prior to Transition
Dental practices must complete specific data preservation actions before switching from the TRIOS system to the Dandy Vision system. Failure to complete these actions can result in a permanent loss of scan data.
Submit all pending patient cases currently residing within the TRIOS system software.
Complete any multi-step or staged clinical cases—such as try-ins, wax rims, dentures, or aligners—on the TRIOS system prior to the system switchover.
Verify that zero patient scans remain in progress or unsubmitted on the TRIOS system workstation.
Accessing Historical Scans and Records
Dental practices can access historical patient records and submitted cases after the Dandy Vision system transition is finalized.
Completed and submitted patient cases remain fully accessible online through the Orders tab of the web-based Dandy Practice Portal.
Historical diagnostic patient scans remain available online through the Patients tab of the web-based Dandy Practice Portal.
Unsubmitted patient scans remain stored exclusively on the local TRIOS system workstation hard drive and cannot be viewed on the Dandy Vision system.
To retrieve unsubmitted files, users must boot up the original TRIOS system hardware workstation. Dental practices should contact Dandy Support if technical assistance is required during data retrieval.
Transition Workflow Best Practices
Dental practices should follow standard guidelines to ensure a seamless workflow transition between systems:
Finish and submit every active TRIOS system case before disconnecting the TRIOS system hardware.
Complete all multi-step patient treatments using the TRIOS system workflow prior to starting the Dandy Vision system transition.
Avoid leaving any clinical case mid-progress during the system switchover period.
