Overview: This article provides essential information for practices switching from a legacy scanner (such as 3Shape Trios) to the Dandy Vision system. To ensure a smooth transition and prevent data loss, follow these guidelines before setting up your new hardware.
Mandatory Pre-transition Steps
Before you connect your new Dandy Vision scanner, your clinical team must:
Submit all active cases: Any scans captured on your old scanner that have not been submitted will not carry over to the new system.
Complete multi-step orders: For cases involving try-ins, wax-rims, or dentures, complete the current phase on your existing scanner before swapping hardware.
Finish refabs in progress: It is recommended to address any outstanding refabs or unsubmitted cases before the transition.
Accessing Historical Scans and Records
Once the hardware swap is complete, your access to legacy data changes:
Submitted Scans: You can still view and download previously submitted scans under the Orders tab in your Dandy Portal.
Diagnostic Scans: These remain visible in the Patients tab of your Dandy Practice Portal.
Unsubmitted Scans: These remain on your old laptop hard drive but cannot be accessed with the Dandy Vision wand. To access these, you must use your original scanning wand and contact Dandy Support to assist with reinstalling the previous software.
Post-transition Capabilities
Understanding what you can and cannot do after switching to Dandy Vision is critical for workflow management.
| You Can | You Cannot |
|---|---|
| Submit new cases using the Dandy Vision scanner. | Submit scans captured (but not submitted) on your old scanner. |
| View historical submitted scans in the Dandy Portal. | Continue scanning an existing case started on a different wand. |
| Upload refab scans directly into the new Vision & Cart system. | Transfer "in-progress" scan data between systems. |
| Communicate with the lab on previously submitted orders. | Re-open unsubmitted Trios files within the Vision software. |
Best Practices for a Smooth Swap
The "Clean Slate" Approach: We highly recommend completing every open case on your Trios scanner before unboxing the Dandy Vision.
Dual Scan Protocol: If you are in the middle of a denture or partial denture case requiring a try-in, it is safest to wait until that specific case is finalized before transitioning.
