Indication

A Reduction Coping is intended for use on a single crown preparation.  It is intended for short-term use and is then discarded.

Contraindications/Adverse Reactions

Precautions

The reduction coping should not be exposed to thermal treatment such as steam or dry heat sterilization.

This product is intended for single use and may not be reused.  Reusing the product introduces:

  • The risk of infection and complications due to a loss of accuracy of fit and the precision of the components.
  • Performance failure of the device.
  • Infection, inflammation, or allergy related to the device.
  • Swallowing or inhalation of the device or a part thereof.

Why is a reduction coping needed?

  • To create more space for the restoration after a final scan is submitted of the prepared teeth. To achieve:
    • Avoid rescheduling a patient to modify the preparations and rescan.
      • Consult with the laboratory to see if it will produce a predictable outcome.
    • It should only be used in cases where a small area needs to be adjusted.
    • Better aesthetics or function.
    • Adequate space.
    • Increase the thickness of the restorative material.
    • Achieve the case goals.
  • Use
    • 1. Anesthetize (if necessary)
    • 2. Place the reduction coping on the tooth that needs additional adjustment.
    • 3. The area to be adjusted will perforate through the opening.
    • 4. Use a dental bur for adjustment.
  • Reduce the protruding area (and a little more)
  • Care should be used not to create any sharp edges or ledges (which may prevent the final seating of the restoration).
  • If the tooth structure is overreduced, the fit between the crown and the tooth might not be intimate despite using the reduction coping.
  • Whatever needs to be adjusted should be removed with a straight bur in a single plane cut.
  • Warning
    • Do not make adjustments to the margins of the preparation.
    • Alterations can affect the fit and seal of the final restoration.
