How to Use Diagnostic Scans as Pre-Prep Scans on Chairside

Diagnostic Scans can be used as pre-prep scans, allowing you to maximize chair time and capture only the necessary scans to complete an order. By leveraging previously captured Diagnostic Scans, you can bypass re-scanning pre-prep arch and bite scans, saving time while maintaining accuracy.

  • If the patient has a previously captured Diagnostic Scan, you can opt to use these scans for your case by select the 'Order using these scans' button to proceed.
    • The capture date of that Diagnostic Scan is displayed for reference.
    • If you do not wish to use a previously captured Diagnostic Scan for your case, select the 'Re-scan and order something' button to proceed.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Do I have to use a Diagnostic Scan if it's available?

No, you don't -- this is an optional workflow. If you wish to capture new scans, select the 'Re-scan and order something' button to capture all necessary pre-prep and prep scans for this case.

What should I do if the Diagnostic is too outdated for my liking or doesn’t match the needs of the current case?

If you do not wish to use a previously captured Diagnostic Scan for your case, select the 'Re-scan and order something' button. You will be prompted to capture all necessary scans (pre-prep and prep) during your workflow.

How do I know if a Diagnostic Scan has already been captured for a patient?

You can verify that you have a previously captured Diagnostic Scan by navigating to the 'Patients' tab on Chairside, located the patient in-question, and accessing their related scans page. If there is no Diagnostic Scan listed on this screen, nor one listed when you attempt to type in the patient's name, this means there is not one on file.

Can I submit a case using only a previously captured Diagnostic Scan?

Yes, if your order does not require additional scans, you will advance directly to the Checkout flow to add final order details and ultimately place your order.

Does using a previously captured Diagnostic Scan affect the accuracy of my case?

When considering using a Diagnostic Scan in this capacity, be sure to use scans that have accurately captured the necessary anatomy of each arch and the patient's bite. Additionally, be mindful of the date that those scans were captured.
