This article reviews how to use the Share Scans tool on both Chairside and the Doctor Portal. Share scans directly with patients via email, SMS, or printable PDF. Emails and SMS messages are no-reply, so responses won’t be received.
Tip: Use Portal to share scans with patients at any time, even outside of a patient's appointment. These steps are shown later in this article.
Sharing Scans with Patients
(1) How to Share Scans with Patients on Chairside
Step 1 - Click the 'Share scans with patient' button
- On Chairside, the Share Scans tool is available on the 'Review' tab once all scans are completed and can be accessed during any scanning workflow.
- Some doctors use the 'Annotate scans' tool before sharing to circle, highlight, and note specific items on the scan for their patient to refer back to.
Step 2 - Confirm practice contact information: name & phone number
*Note: Chairside will prompt you to confirm this information only once.
Step 3 - Add a message, additional content, and share method
- If Send a link is selected, you will be prompted to enter your patient's phone number or email restively. This information must be accurate to ensure a successful send & receipt with your patient.
- Emails and SMS messages are no-reply, so patient responses won’t be received.
- If Print a PDF is selected, a PDF will be generated for you to print and hand to your patient.
(2) How to Share Scans with Patients on your Doctor Portal
Scans can be shared with patients via the Doctor Portal at any time, including after a patient's appointment.
Note: patient names and scans become visible in the Doctor Portal after the following:
- Patient names: a patient’s name appears on the 'Patients' list once at least one order or Diagnostic Scan has been submitted for them.
- Patient scans: scans from orders and Diagnostic Scans become viewable after the order has been submitted.
Step 1 - Log in to your Doctor Portal
- Log on to your Doctor Portal at practice.meetdandy.com.
Step 2 - Navigate to the 'Patients' tab
- Once on your Portal, select the 'Patients' tab from the navigation bar.
Step 3 - Locate the patient whose scans you wish to view
- After you've clicked the 'Patients' tab, you'll view a list of all patient names whose scans are viewable.
- Select the name of the patient whose scans you wish to view.
- Note: a patient’s name appears on the 'Patients' list once at least one order or Diagnostic Scan has been submitted for them
Step 4 - Select the 'More actions' icon to access its dropdown menu
- After a patient's name is selected from the patient list, you will arrive at the Patient Scan page.
- Click the 'More actions' icon (the three vertical dots) shown in the upper righthand corner of a case tile.
Step 5 - Select the 'Share scans with patient' link
- Selecting the 'Share scans with patient' link will automatically pull up the Share Scans menu
Step 6 - Complete the 'Share scans with patient' menu
- Complete all fields in this menu
- Emails and SMS messages are no-reply, so responses won’t be received.
- If Send a link is selected, you will be prompted to enter your patient's phone number or email restively. This information must be accurate to ensure a successful send & receipt with your patient.
- If Print a PDF is selected, a PDF will be generated for you to print and hand to your patient.
What Patients Receive
Scans shared via SMS message
Step 1 - Patient receives automated SMS message with embedded link
Your patient first will receive an automated text message with an embedded link for them to access their scans.
Step 2 - Patient can review scans captured at their appointment
Your patient can view their scans, any annotations, and any messages you've included from their mobile device.
Scans shared via email
Step 1 - Patient receives automated email with embedded link
Your patient first will receive an automated email with an embedded link for them to access their scans.
Step 2 - Patient can review scans captured at their appointment
Your patient can view their scans, any annotations, and any messages you've included from their computer.
Scans shared printed PDF
Print generated PDF
If you selected to share scans via a printable PDF, Chairside will automatically generate a PDF (shown below) for you to print and had to your patient.
