Create and Submit iTero Implant Cases

Overview: This article explains how to configure patient information, define restoration details, and execute the scanning path for implant cases using an iTero scanner.

Prerequisites

  • Active Dandy Portal account.

  • iTero scanner with updated software.

  • Physical scan body or scannable healing abutment.

Create New Implant Scan

To begin a new case, follow these steps to initialize the patient record:

  1. Locate the iTero home screen.

  2. Select the New Scan button.

  3. Enter the patient's first name, last name, date of birth, and gender in the provided fields.

Define Order Specifications

Selecting the correct procedure ensures the iTero scanner captures the necessary data for Dandy:

Select Procedure and Type

  1. Navigate to the Procedure menu and select Fixed Restorative.

  2. Navigate to the Type menu and select Implant Based.

  3. Note: Users may also select the specific teeth in the dental diagram to skip the manual "type" selection.

Input Restoration Details

Enter the following technical specifications to ensure manufacturing accuracy:

  • Implant Data: Manufacturer name, implant system, and implant type.

  • Scan Body Data: Scan body manufacturer.

  • Restoration Data: Retention method (e.g., screw-retained), abutment type, and abutment material.

  • Crown Data: Final crown specifications, material choice, and shade.

Scan Patient Anatomy

Access the scanning interface by clicking the Scanner icon in the top ribbon.

Capture Preparation Site

  1. Center the preparation site within the viewfinder crosshair.

  2. Begin scanning at the occlusal view of the preparation to visualize the margin.

  3. Roll the scanner from the lingual to the buccal side of the preparation.

  4. Roll the scanner from the distal to the mesial side of the preparation.

  5. Review the digital model immediately and fill any significant voids in the scan data.

Scan Full Arches

  1. Look for the blue outline on the screen to identify which arch the iTero scanner requires first.

  2. Follow a scan path of Occlusal > Lingual > Buccal for both arches.

Record Emergence Profile

If the procedure does not use an Encode or scannable healing abutment, capture an "Additional Scan":

  1. Remove the healing abutment from the patient's mouth.

  2. Scan the tissue contour surrounding the implant.

  3. Capture the contact areas of the surrounding dental structures.

Finalize and Submit Order

Record Occlusal Bite

  1. Use a swooping motion with the scanner from the posterior teeth toward the canine.

  2. Include 2-3mm of gingiva (gum tissue) in the bite scan.

  3. Repeat this motion on both the left and right sides of the mouth.

  4. Confirm a purple overlay appears on both sides, which indicates the bite is successfully articulated.

Process and Send Case

  1. Select the Magnifying Glass icon from the top ribbon to process the raw scans.

  2. Review the processed 3D model for accuracy.

  3. Click the Mail icon.

  4. Select Send on the confirmation pop-up to transmit the order to Dandy.
