Guide to Monolithic Try-Ins

Add a monolithic try-in to any full denture order with only 1 more appointment added!

What is a monolithic try-in?

  • 3D Printed in a single color resin (not necessarily in the desired tooth shade)
  • Replace the conventional wax-teeth try-ins
  • Free with any order using a wax-bite rim
    • An order using a reference/copy denture incurs an add-on fee. Refer to your pricing guide for more information.

How do I adjust monolithic try-ins?

  1. Seat the try-in
  2. No adjustments necessary → Go straight to order, no need to scan (If it is for a full denture)!  (If it is for a partial, provide feedback and mail back)
  3. Needs adjustments → Adjust as aggressively as needed
    • Use burr or other tools to adjust the try-in to the proper specifications
    • Scan the try-in and new bite to submit changes (no need to mail it back if it is for a full denture)!
    • If it is for a partial, provide feedback, take physical bite registration, and mail back
      • rescan as well if there is a fit issue
    • If this is a combo case (partial and denture), please follow the analog workflow and mail everything back
    • Leave additional notes on the order slip

Providing Feedback

When providing feedback, you will be presented with a list of options. Based on your responses, the software will guide you in capturing the needed information to correct the denture.

Types of Potential Issues

  • Retention / Fit
    • Too loose
    • Too tight
    • Border Extensions
  • Bite & Occlusion
    • Open anterior bite
    • One-sided contact
    • VDO

    • Lip support
    • Smile line

Steps to Take if There Are Fit and Retention Issues

Loose fit, No retention or Rocking

  1. Relieve (if necessary)
  2. Border mold (if needed)
  3. Reline Impression (Light-body wash)
  4. Functional movements
  5. Post impression evaluation
  6. Bite registration (if needed)
  7. Rescan

Note: If the fit is too tight, gently adjust the base until comfortable. If the fit is satisfactory after adjustments, there is no need for an impression.

Vertical Dimension of Occlusion

We can easily correct a patient's VDO by using a combination of notes on desired changes and adjustments.

If the VDO is too open:

  1. Adjust try-in until desired VDO is reached
  2. Take and trim bite registration
  3. Rescan

If the VDO is overclosed:

  1. Build up bite until desired VDO is reached
    • Compound
    • Wax
    • Expired Composite
  2. Take and trim bite registration
  3. Rescan

Aesthetics

When there are issues with the look/aesthetics of the try-in, we will use a combination of markings, adjustments, notes, and photos to convey the required changes to the lab.
