Overview: This guide explains how to use the "Lock" feature to capture data for multiple implant sites using only one scan body. The "Lock" process allows the software to retain previously scanned data while the clinician moves the physical scan body to a new position.
Capture the Emergence Profile
Remove the healing caps from the implant sites.
Select "Start scan" in the software.
Begin scanning at an implant site to capture the emergence profile.
Capture the surrounding gingiva and the contacts adjacent to the implant sites.
Finish the full arch scan and verify the digital data contains no distortion.
Select "Mark tooth," click the specific implant sites, and select "Next".
Scan the First Scan Body
Seat a compatible scan body in the most posterior implant site.
Verify the scan body is fully seated by capturing a periapical or vertical bitewing radiograph.
Confirm the internal connection is visible and check for gaps between the implant interface and the scan body.
Scan the first scan body, beginning the scan on the adjacent tooth.
-
Apply the "twist technique" to capture all lateral and occlusal surfaces of the scan body.
Apply the Lock Tool
Orient the digital scan to an occlusal view of the scan body.
Select the "Lock" tool and set the diameter to medium (2mm) or small (1mm).
Hover the mouse over the scan body and hold the left mouse button to select the area to be locked.
Ensure the locked surfaces change color to indicate successful selection.
Continue using the lock tool until all lateral, occlusal, buccal, and lingual surfaces of the scan body are highlighted.
Avoid locking soft tissue or teeth. If accidental selection occurs, select the "Undo" button.
Select "Done" to save the locked changes.
Capture Subsequent Implant Sites
Remove the scan body from the first implant site.
Reseat the scan body in the next posterior implant position.
Capture a new radiograph to confirm the scan body is fully seated in the new site.
Scan the newly seated scan body, starting the scan on an adjacent area.
-
Use the twist technique to capture all surfaces of the newly positioned scan body.
Avoid scanning over the previously scanned area that was locked in the software.
Repeat the lock and scan steps if additional implant sites require the use of the single scan body.
