Overview: This guide provides a step-by-step appointment workflow for fabricating new partial and complete dentures on opposing arches using Chairside software.
Prerequisites
Before starting the workflow, ensure the patient meets these criteria:
The patient requires a new partial and a complete denture on opposing arches.
The patient has no existing dentition or appliances (such as a partial or full denture) to establish Vertical Dimension of Occlusion (VDO) or a bite.
Note: If the patient only requires a single arch or dual arch dentures of the same type (e.g., partial/partial), use the specific standalone Partial or Complete Denture workflows.
Review Scanning Best Practices
To ensure high-quality data for the lab, review these resources before the first appointment:
Complete Denture Scanning Best Practices
Recommended Scan Paths for Complete Dentures
Partial Denture Scanning Best Practices
Appointment 1: Case Setup and Scanning
Setup Case in Chairside
Open the Chairside software and select Dentures followed by Denture.
Indicate if the case is a New Denture or an Immediate Denture.
Choose the appropriate arch for the complete denture.
Select Add another item, then choose Dentures followed by Partial.
Select the desired material and preferences for the partial denture.
Perform Patient Scanning
Scan the patient's arches following the recommended scan paths.
If scanning an edentulous lower arch is difficult, take a standard impression.
Scan the physical impression or the resulting stone model into Chairside if a direct intraoral scan is not feasible.
Appointment 2: Bite Registration
Prepare the Wax Bite Rim
Receive the wax bite rim from Dandy.
Guide the wax bite rim into the patient’s mouth to verify the fit.
Apply a light body wash to the wax bite rim for border molding to increase accuracy.
Register the Patient Bite
Mark the midlines, canine lines, and smile lines clearly on the wax bite rim.
Apply blue mousse to the wax bite rim to register the patient's bite.
Capture Clinical Photos
Capture the following photos with the wax bite rim in place to assist the lab:
Head-on smiling: One photo of the patient smiling naturally.
Profile views: Two photos (one from each side) of the patient smiling naturally.
Retracted view: If possible, one head-on photo with cheek retractors in place.
Ship Materials to Dandy
Return the finalized wax bite rim to Dandy for processing.
