Creating a New Case

How to start a new case in AS ScanPro — for a brand-new patient, or from an existing patient record.

Option A — New Patient

1. Select Cases in the navigation menu, then click New case.
2. Type the patient's name into the field and click OK to create the patient profile. The case name generates automatically.
3. Click Create to confirm and save the case.

Option B — Existing Patient

1. Select Patients in the navigation menu and search by name. If the patient isn't found, create a new patient entry instead.
2. On the patient's page, click Quick Scan or New Case to begin scanning.

AS Connect Case Detail Page

Where you choose the treatment type and configure case-specific options before scanning starts.

On the Scan tab, choose the treatment type:

• Restoration — reconstructive and implant procedures
• Orthodontic — alignment corrections
• DirectIP — fully edentulous arches
• Other — miscellaneous procedures

Restoration Options

• Tooth selection: permanent or deciduous — click a tooth on the arch diagram to open its restoration options
• Restoration type: crown, inlay-core, inlay/onlay, veneer, pontic, full denture, or partial denture
• Implant-based: check this to reveal the Implant Kit menu — select Brand, Platform, and Scanbody in turn
• Post&Core: go to Restoration → Any Tooth → Crown, then check Post&Core
• Material and Shade selection
• Implant quick selection: select implants for the upper, lower, or full jaw at once; Clear All deselects everything
• Full-arch toggle: turn on for full-arch implant cases to enable the dedicated full-arch workflow
• Pre-op scanning: choose whether to scan a pre-op model before the standard workflow

DirectIP Setup

1. Click the implant positions on the arch diagram (selected positions highlight blue).
2. Select the Implant Kit: choose Brand, Platform, and Scanbody in turn. Use the Library / Favourite / Recent tabs, or check Compatibility List to confirm fit.
3. Optional: toggle Scan Provisional Prosthesis to capture a provisional prosthesis.

Orthodontic / Other

Selection is simple — just choose the type that matches the treatment. No further configuration is needed.

Tooth Editing Shortcuts

• Multi-select: hold Ctrl and click teeth, or hold the left mouse button and drag across teeth
• Copy: Ctrl+C (single tooth only)
• Paste: Ctrl+V on the target position
• Delete: press Delete to remove all restoration info for that tooth
• Bridge: select adjacent teeth — click the blue circle that appears to confirm the bridge

Scanner Management

Connecting and monitoring the scanner — status, preview video, screen recording, screenshots, gallery, and battery.

Scanner List

1. The Scanner List displays automatically when AS ScanPro opens.
2. If a scanner isn't detected within 10 seconds, click the “Scanner not detected” message for troubleshooting (check power or wireless adapter connectivity).
3. A connected scanner shows its icon, serial number, and status. Click Connect or Disconnect to manage the connection.
4. Once connected, a live Preview video appears while the scanner is in use, and pauses automatically when it's returned to the holder.

Scanner Status Icons

• Connecting
• Not connected
• Scanning paused
• Idle
• Tip not recognised
• No tip attached
• Scanner too hot
• Resting in the holder

Preview Video

Shows a real-time camera feed before detailed scanning begins — use it to check that the scanner tip's mirror or lens is clean. Not supported on the AS 260a.

• Resize: click and hold the upper-left corner, then drag
• Restore default size: double-click the preview video
• The preview is temporarily replaced by the Cut, Lock, Add tooth mark, or Undercut check interfaces when those tools are active

Screen Recording

1. Click the Screen Recording icon to start.
2. Use Pause, Resume, or Stop to control the recording.
3. Find the saved recording in the Gallery (before finishing the case) or the File Viewer (after finishing).

Take Screenshot

1. Adjust the 3D model to the desired angle and zoom.
2. Click Take Screenshot to save a high-definition PNG.
3. View it in the Gallery or the File Viewer of the current case.

View Gallery

1. Click View Gallery to open the local storage folder for the current case.
2. View and manage screenshots and recordings directly from that folder

Wireless Scanner Battery Indicator

Shown only once AS ScanPro is open and a wireless scanner is connected:

• Above 80%
• 50–80%
• 40–50%
• 20–40%
• Below 20%

Features for Scan Improvement (Scanning Modes)

Modes that improve scan quality in specific conditions — soft tissue handling, reflective surfaces, low-quality data, and impressions.

Soft Tissue Filter

AI-based filter that removes non-essential soft tissue, keeping focus on teeth and relevant gingiva. Enabled by default; toggle and adjust intensity from the bottom-left of the scanning interface. Upper and lower jaw settings sync automatically.

• Extensive preservation: keeps the most gingival tissue — best for edentulous arches
• Moderate preservation (default): removes interfering tissue, keeps teeth and necessary gingiva
• Complete removal: strips all the gingiva, keeping only the tooth structure

Shining Surface Mode

For reflective objects: metal teeth, metal scan bodies, healing abutments, or tea/tobacco-stained teeth. Available on the AS 100 only, and must be enabled manually in the bottom-left corner.

1. Scan non-metallic areas with distinct features first, before moving to metallic regions.
2. Move the scanner tip slowly, pausing 2–3 seconds to capture enough data.
3. Vary the angle — metal's reflectiveness can limit reconstruction to specific viewpoints.

Enhanced Mode

Improves data capture stability in difficult conditions. Keep it off for normal scanning; enable it for:

• Highly reflective restorations (metal crowns/bridges)
• Deep molar regions or poor lighting
• Blood, fluid, or other interference in the scan area

Impression Scan

Integrates traditional impression data with intraoral scans. Disabled by default; toggle it in the bottom-left corner.

Partial Impression

1. Scan the dental arch directly in the patient's mouth.
2. Enable Impression scan.
3. Click Add impression region and select the target area (highlighted green).
4. Scan the impression model corresponding to the highlighted area.

Complete Impression

1. Click Scan on the AS Connect local interface to open ScanPro.
2. Enable Impression scan and scan the complete impression.
3. Disable Impression scan when done — the model auto-orients.

Scan Guidance

Real-time visual cues showing the optimal scanning path. Enabled by default; can be disabled, but not while a scan is actively running.

Scan-Stage Tools

• Cut — Free cut (default, freeform) or Brush cut (Large/Medium/Small); Undo last cut reverses a mistake; cut areas can be re-scanned. Cuts made during Scan carry over to Refine, but Refine-stage cuts don't sync back.
• Lock — after stopping the upper/lower jaw scan, drag to lock an area so it can't be modified or re-scanned. Undo removes the last locked area; Return exits. Auto-exits when you press the scan button or mode switch. Useful for locking scan bodies one at a time when several are close together.
• Add tooth mark — marks an area for higher-resolution reconstruction in Refine. Default diameter 6mm, adjustable 5–16mm with the mouse wheel. Delete tooth mark removes a mark. Only available during the Scan stage.
• Undercut check — position the prep tooth, click Set insertion direction. Red = major interference, green = minor undercut, no colour = none. Drag the colour scale to inspect ranges.
• Replay scan path — reproduces the actual scan path for troubleshooting; recorded automatically and always available.
• Undo scan / Redo scan — Undo removes the most recent scan action; Redo restores it.
• Delete — removes all scan data in the current view. There is no undo — confirm before deleting.
• True colour / monochrome — True colour (default) shows real tissue colour; disable for monochrome (default yellow), which highlights detected holes and locked areas more clearly.
• Vivid display mode — off by default; requires True colour to be on. Gives a shinier, more realistic rendering.
• Show 3D centre — available in Scan and Refine; displays the model's centre point as a reference while rotating.
• Zoom to fit — one click re-centres and optimally sizes the model in Scan or Refine.

Refine-Stage Tools

• Quadrant snapshot — generates 5 (default) or 6 standard 2D clinical views, configurable in AS Connect Preferences. Access saved snapshots in the File Viewer.
• Margin line — draw or auto-extract the cervical margin line. If auto-extraction fails, use Set insertion direction, then Add margin line by clicking points around the prep edge. Mark the tooth number, then edit or delete as needed. Exports to Exocad or the lab.
• Measurement — adjust the model/plane position, then drag to capture a 2D profile between two points. Toggle Clipped plane to isolate the prep-tooth view.
• Manual Arch Alignment — for when auto-alignment fails. Select a reference arch, mark 3–4 matching points on both arches, Delete last point to undo, Separate to unlink. The target arch's original occlusal relationship may not carry over — confirm before proceeding.
• Transparency — Bites step of Refine only. Independent sliders (0–100%) for the upper and lower jaw to inspect occlusal contacts.

Bite Tools

• Add additional bite — available only after both side bites are scanned. Click + to add (up to 3 total), press the scan button to capture, remove with the trash icon.
• Delete current bite — choose the left or right bite, then click Delete current bite to remove it from the scanning interface.

Scan Body Matching

Transfers the 3D spatial position of scan bodies into the digital model for CAD design, with automatic recognition and a manual fallback.

1. Configure the Scanbody Library before scanning: click Scanbody matching, then Open Scanbody Library. For the Default Library, select Brand → Connection → Platform → Scanbody in order. You can also import a Custom Library for third-party scan bodies.
2. Automatic alignment: scan normally. Once the software recognises the scan body's 3D features, an “Alignment Successful” prompt appears.
3. Manual alignment (if the success prompt doesn't appear — often from missing data or an extreme angle): select Manually Align Scanbodies, then mark 1–3 matching points on both the standard scan body (CAD view, left) and the scanned model (right). Use Delete last point to fix a misplaced point.

Scan Quality Check

Automatically evaluates scan data against clinical standards immediately after scanning stops. Enabled by default.

Colour Indicators

• Green: holes or gaps — needs additional scanning
• Blue (light to dark): quality ranges from acceptable to insufficient — darker areas need rescanning
• Original 3D model colour: quality is sufficient — no action needed
• Deep blue: layering issue — rescan those areas
