Manage Chairside Clear Aligner Scanning

Overview: Learn how to capture, review, and share digital impressions for clear aligner cases using the Chairside scanning interface.

Capture Scanning Data

Capture the digital impression data in the recommended sequence to ensure the Chairside software processes the data accurately.

Scan Sequence and Path

Follow the occlusal, buccal, and then lingual scan path for both arches to ensure full coverage.

  1. Lower Arch: Scan the lower arch following the recommended path and click Next.

  2. Upper Arch: Scan the upper arch following the recommended path and click Next.

  3. Bites: Capture at least four teeth and 2–3mm of gingival tissue for the bite registration.

    • Align Bite Scans Manually if the bites don’t auto-align

  4. Review Scans: Click Review Scans to identify any missing or distorted data areas.

  5. Manual Alignment: Use the Align Bite Scans Manually tool if the bite scans do not align automatically.

Scan Modification Tools

Use the toolbar at the bottom of the scan pages to modify the captured digital data.

Manage Scanning and Review Tools in Chairside for detailed instructions for these tools.

  • Reset: Delete the entire current scan to start over.

  • Trim: Remove a specific selected area from the scan.

  • Lock: Secure a selected area of the scan in place to prevent further changes.

  • Center: Align the digital scan to a standard occlusal view.

  • Stone: Convert the colour scan to a monochromatic stone appearance for better surface detail visibility.

  • Swap: Exchange the current scan with a different selected arch scan.

Review Scanning Data

Utilise the review tools to evaluate the quality and accuracy of the captured digital impressions before finalising the order.

View and Analysis Options

  1. Single View: Click Single to view both the upper and lower arches in occlusion.

  2. Side by Side View: Click Side by Side to see the upper and lower arches individually at the same time.

  3. Complete View: Click Complete to view a combined presentation of the Single and Side by Side modes.

  4. Compare Mode: Click Compare to view current scans next to a previously completed scan set.

  5. HD Scans: Click HD Scans to view the digital impressions in high definition.

  6. Clearance Map: Click Clearance to view a heat map indicating the occlusal clearance between arches.

  7. Annotate Scans: Click Annotate Scans to draw, circle, or add text notes directly onto the digital model.
