Manage TRIOS 3 Color and 3D Calibration Failures

Overview: This article provides instructions to resolve color and 3D calibration failures for the TRIOS 3 scanner within Chairside or TRIOS Unite software.

  • Note: The TRIOS 5 model does not require manual calibration as it self-calibrates automatically.

Important: Calibration can be completed within 1–5 days after the 7-day cycle without impacting scan quality. Scanning does not need to be delayed if a patient is present.

Resolve 3D Calibration Failures

If the 3D calibration process for the TRIOS 3 fails, perform the following steps:

Scanner 3D Calibration Setup Full

Reconnect the 3D Calibration Adapter

  1. Remove the 3D calibration adapter from the TRIOS 3 scanner neck.

  2. Firmly reconnect the 3D calibration adapter to ensure a secure friction fit.

Restart the Software

  1. Close the Chairside or TRIOS Unite software.

  2. Restart the software and attempt the 3D calibration again.

Use the Alternative Calibration Surface

  1. If the 3D calibration continues to fail, locate the B side of the color calibration target.

  2. Use the B side for the 3D calibration. Both sides of the target are interchangeable for "gray surface" 3D calibration purposes.

Resolve Color Calibration Failures

If the TRIOS 3 color calibration fails, perform the following steps:

Verify the Scanner Tip

  1. Ensure a mirror tip is installed on the TRIOS 3 scanner.

  2. Confirm the tip is not a protective tip, as protective tips cause calibration failure.

  3. Inspect the mirror tip for scratches, spots, streaks, or rainbow discoloration. Replace the tip if any defects are visible.

Reseat Calibration Components

  1. Remove the color calibration adapter from the scanner.

  2. Reconnect the adapter and ensure the calibration target "clicks" securely into place.

Configure Side A Orientation

  1. Point the TRIOS 3 mirror tip down.

  2. Position the scanner button facing up.

  3. Confirm that Side A of the calibration target is facing up and aligned with the scanner button.

  4. Push the target in firmly and retry calibration.

Configure Side B Orientation

  1. Point the TRIOS 3 mirror tip down.

  2. Position the scanner button facing up.

  3. Confirm that Side B of the calibration target is facing up and aligned with the scanner button.

  4. Push the target in firmly and retry calibration.

Calibration Target Sides

Use the 3D Tip Method for Side B

If Side B calibration still fails:

  1. Remove the color target, the adapter, and the mirror tip.

  2. Install the round, black 3D calibration tip.

  3. Run the Side B calibration using this 3D calibration tip setup.

  4. If the calibration passes using the 3D tip, contact Dandy Support to request a replacement color calibration target.
