Overview: This guide explains how to scan physical impressions for edentulous or partially edentulous denture cases using an intraoral scanner.
Overview of Physical Impression Scanning
Clinicians often face challenges when scanning large areas of soft tissue in fully edentulous patients, which can cause the intraoral scanner to lose tracking. To resolve this, Dandy allows offices to scan physical impressions with an intraoral scanner. This workflow is currently intended for:
Edentulous full arch cases: For patients seeking a new or copy denture.
Partially edentulous cases: For patients intended to receive immediate dentures.
Acceptable Impression Materials
Dandy accepts a variety of materials for the physical impression scanning workflow. Approved materials include:
Alginate
Polysulfide
Polyether
Polyvinyl siloxane (PVS)
Zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE)
Physical Impression Scanning Workflow
The physical impression scanning workflow is integrated into the standard edentulous arch process.
Select the workflow segment: Within the portal, choose the segment for the specific case.
Choose the scan source: Select the option for "Physical Impression Scan" rather than "Intraoral Scan".
Perform the scan: Use the intraoral scanner to capture the intaglio surface of the physical impression.
Settings: Use standard scanner resolution and fidelity settings during this process.
Equipment and Hardware Compatibility
All Dandy-approved intraoral scanners are compatible with this physical impression scanning workflow. While Dandy does not provide custom impression trays, clinicians are encouraged to use their existing intraoral scanner hardware for the submission.
Fees and Turnaround Times
There is no additional fee for submitting a scanned physical impression. Furthermore, using this workflow does not impact order turnaround times compared to standard intraoral scan submissions.
