Overview: This guide provides the Indications for Use (IFU), contraindications, and maintenance protocols for Dandy’s digitally fabricated injected dentures and flexible partials.
Dandy’s final dentures (partials and full) are designed/fabricated using digital technology (some partials are fabricated by hand), allowing for a precise fit and customization to the patient's specific needs. They are made of highly durable and biocompatible materials, ensuring long-term comfort and function.
Indications for Use
Dandy’s Dentures are removable prostheses intended for the replacement of missing natural teeth and associated oral structures. They are indicated for fully edentulous and partially edentulous patients requiring prosthetic restoration.
Potential Risks and Benefits of Dentures
Risks (all types):
- Gingival irritation, mucosal soreness, ulceration
- Poor adaptation may cause instability or trauma
- Allergic response to base or teeth materials
However, the benefits are overwhelming.
Benefits:
- Restores oral function, speech, mastication, and esthetics
- Digitally fabricated for precision fit and reduced chair time
-
Material-specific advantages:
- PMMA: Seamless monolithic finish
Directions for Use
Dental professionals must follow these clinical protocols to ensure proper fit and patient safety.
Insertion Protocol
Clean Tissues: Rinse the oral tissues or clean with a soft-bristle brush.
Grip Edges: Hold the denture by the edges to prevent damage.
Insert Device: Use a gentle rocking motion for insertion. For partial dentures, use fingers to guide the device without excessive force.
Seat Device: Instruct the patient to bite and swallow. For partials, ensure the patient bites down gently to confirm stability
Assess Retention: Apply adhesive if the natural retention is insufficient.
Verify Occlusion: Use carbon articulation paper to identify and adjust heavy occlusion points.
Adjustment Guidelines
Pressure: Apply light pressure using high-speed rotary instruments
Temperature: Use water and air spray continuously to maintain temperature and prevent micro-fractures.
Burs: Utilize a #13 Green Mounted Stone for chair-side adjustments and a rubber wheel for final polishing.
Cleaning and Care
Proper maintenance extends the lifespan of the injected denture and ensures patient health.
Daily Cleaning Protocol
Frequency: Clean the injected denture before and after every use.
Temperature: Use warm water not exceeding $45^\circ\text{C}$ ($113^\circ\text{F}$).
Soap: Use only soft, antibacterial liquid dish soap without heavy dyes, scents, or flavors.
Approved Cleaning Agents
Solutions: Use Polident or Efferdent for 10–15 minute sessions as directed by the manufacturer.
Mechanical Cleaning: Use a soft-bristle brush for periodic debris removal from the inside of the appliance.
Prohibited Substances
Do not use the following, as they cause material discoloration and damage:
Chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite)
Hydrogen peroxide
Alcohol-based products or mouthwash
Flexible Partial Material Options
Dandy offers multiple flexible material types based on patient needs.
Valplast (Thermoplastic Nylon Resin)
Advantages: Lightweight, non-allergenic, and monomer-free.
Limitations: Cannot be remolded with heat; difficult to repair or reline if the fit changes.
Duraflex (Ethylene Propylene)
Advantages: Highly biocompatible, BPA-free, and stain-resistant.
Limitations: Susceptible to wear over time; may require frequent cleaning to prevent bacterial buildup.
Disposal
- Partial denture disposal usually involves handling it as regulated biohazardous or general waste, often via specialized handlers for incineration or secure landfill.
- Always avoid putting them in regular trash without checking local rules.
- Biohazard/Infectious Waste: Treat used or unclaimed dentures as biohazardous due to saliva/blood; use red bags and authorized carriers.
- Incineration: A common method for final destruction.
- Confidentiality: Redact or destroy patient info on lab boxes and bases before disposal.
