How to Sterilize the Medit Scanner Equipment

Instructions for cleaning and sterilizing the scanner components, including mirror tips, scanner lenses, and hand pieces. 

Materials Needed

  • Paper sterilization pouches
  • Autoclave
  • Wavicide-01 solution
  • Lint-free, non-abrasive cloth
  • Cotton-tipped swab
  • Denatured alcohol - Ethanol or Propanol - (60–70% Alc/Vol)

Sterilizing Mirror Tips

  1. Place each scanner tip into a paper sterilization pouch, ensuring a tight seal
  2. Use an autoclave to sterilize the tips under one of the following conditions:
    • 121℃ (249.8℉) for 30 minutes, with a subsequent 15-minute drying period
    • 135℃ (275℉) for 10 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of drying
  3. Scanner tips are durable for up to 150 sterilization cycles. Follow the disposal guide for proper discarding

Cleaning and Disinfecting Scanner Tips

  1. Submerge the tip in Wavicide-01 for 45 to 60 minutes. Follow with a thorough rinse
    • Note: Refer to the Wavicide-01 solution instruction manual for proper use
  2. Pat the tip dry with a sterilized, non-abrasive cloth

Caring for the Scanner Lens:

  1. Wipe the lens with a cloth or cotton-tipped swab moistened with alcohol. Ensure the use of ethanol or propanol to avoid staining
  2. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove any moisture

Maintaining the Scanner Hand Piece:

  1. Clean the filter using an alcohol-soaked cloth with the device off and disconnected. Cover filter when completed
    • Note: Do not wipe with your hands or use excessive force.
  2. Apply denatured alcohol to a soft, lint-free, nonabrasive cloth and wipe the scanner's surface. Dry thoroughly
