Sterilization and Reuse Guidelines for Scan Bodies and Inventory review

As a dental professional, ensuring the proper sterilization and handling of scan bodies is crucial for maintaining a high standard of care. Below, we provide guidelines on sterilizing and reusing various types of scan bodies commonly used in practice.

Common Questions:

  • How should I sterilize or clean the scan body?
  • Can I autoclave my scan bodies?
  • Are scan bodies reusable?

Sterilizing Scan Bodies:

Before use, ensure that the scan bodies and associated screwdrivers are properly cleaned and autoclaved under the following conditions:

  • Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes or
  • Autoclave at 134°C for 3 minutes.

Note: The packaging box for the scan bodies cannot be autoclaved.

Reusing Scan Bodies:

In general, the scan bodies provided to your practice are designed for multiple uses, which is important to keep in mind when requesting additional scan bodies that may have already been supplied.

However, Authentic Straumann scan bodies and Encode healing caps are exceptions to this rule. These items are strictly intended for single use and should not be reused.

Below is a table outlining the reuse lifecycle and indications for the reuse of commonly provided scan bodies:

Manufacturer Authentic/ Generic Reusable? Geometry

NT Trading Generic 100x Large rounded edge with smaller rounded edge on the opposing sides.
