This article outlines steps to connect wireless Trios scanners, and basic troubleshooting for disconnected wireless scanners.
Wireless Scanners
Trios makes 3 wireless scanners:
- Trios 3 (Wireless Only)
- Trios 4 (Can be setup as Wired or Wireless)
- Trios 5 (Wireless Only)
Wireless scanners should function identically to their wired counterpart in every aspect except connecting and calibration.
The Trios 4 scanner does not have a wired and wireless model, instead all Trios 4 scanners support both a tethered and wireless mode depending on the base used (Both bases are included).
Using the Wireless Scanner
- To turn the scanner on press the button and the status light will turn blue. After around 15 seconds the scanner will connect to the PC. The status light turns green and the battery level can be seen in the upper right corner of the screen.
- When preparing for a new patient, insert the battery into the scanner. For the most efficient battery use, start the scanner on the trigger button around 5 minutes before scanning, to allow for heating up and thereby avoid condensation. Following this procedure, you will get around 35 mins of continuous scanning on a new battery. While the scanner is idle (connected but not scanning), it will keep the tip warm and consume the battery. If you disconnect the scanner it will automatically switch off after 10 minutes.
- If the power level of the battery drops to a very low level, you will receive warning messages on the left side of the screen. In case the battery is drained completely, the scanner will switch off and the software starts searching for available scanners.
- When you run out of battery simply change to a fresh battery, then press the scanner button and wait for the software to reconnect. Then continue scanning. Remember to insert the empty battery into the charger to make sure you always have a set of fresh batteries.
TP Link
Trios 3 and 4 scanners are connected wireless via a TP Link plugged into a base. There are disconnect situations that can be caused by the base cable becoming damaged, the TP Link can be plugged directly into the laptop to confirm this issue. If the TP Link base is damaged, please request a replacement through 3Shape as we do not support replacements on BYOD devices.
Confirming Scanner Connection
- Use the 'scanner' icon in the upper right hand corner to confirm connection status or add a scanner.
- The connected scanner will be shown, if no scanner is connected select 'add scanner'.
- The scanner will be added using the serial number found on the neck of the scanner when the mirror tip has been removed. Once added the scanner will appear under 'added scanners'.
- Use 'Select' to enable that scanner. To turn the scanner on press the button and the status light will turn blue. After around 15 seconds the scanner will connect to the PC. The status light turns green and the battery level can be seen in the upper right corner of the screen.
- The three dots can be used to rename the scanner.
- When properly connected the scanner will have a battery symbol and green icon in the upper right.
- Alternately the wireless scanner settings can be accessed in in the settings menu under Scanner Management.
Moving Scanner to Another Location
- If you would like to use your TRIOS wireless scanner in another location this may be completed in one of two ways.
- Case 1: If you are moving the entire system including the PC, no further action is required.
- Case 2: If you have one PC in each treatment room you only need to move the scanner
- To do so, go to the settings page and click Disconnect from scanner. Alternatively, you can also shut down the TRIOS software as this will automatically disconnect the scanner. The scanner is now available for other PCs to connect to. If the machines have been paired previously, they will automatically connect to each other within 10-15 seconds. If they haven’t been paired, then you must do that now.
