How to Capture A Sleep Apnea Bite Scan

A protruding bite scan is critical to ensure you provide the best product for your patient. The article below outlines the steps required to capture a bite scan for a sleep apnea device successfully.

Set Therapeutic Bite

Position the patient's bite into the projected therapeutic bite position.

Ensure Proper Spacing

  • Leave roughly 3mm vertical clearance between the arches.
  • Leave roughly 5mm between the opposing anteriors.

Stabilize Jaw Position

Ensure a stable jaw position with a gauge, gig, or firm makeshift device in the therapeutic bite position.

Intraoral Scan

Scan the bite on both sides.

  • The bite scan should cover at least 3-4 teeth for proper alignment.
