Flexible Partial Dentures

Description of Device

Flexible partial dentures are made of a pliable material that allows for flexibility and comfort while wearing. They are custom-made to fit each patient's mouth and attach to the natural teeth with clasps or other connectors.

Flexible partial dentures are used to replace missing teeth and provide support to the remaining natural teeth.

Contraindication

Flexible partial dentures should not be used by patients who have a significant amount of missing teeth, as they may not provide adequate support. Additionally, they may not be suitable for patients with certain medical conditions, such as severe gum disease or bone loss.

Warnings

• In rare occurrences, patients may be allergic to the thermoplastic base material of flexible partial dentures. Advise patients that if swelling or extreme redness occurs, discontinue use immediately and consult you or other health care professionals.
• In rare occurrences, patients with HAE (Hereditary Angioedema) may experience local swelling, which can be triggered by dental procedures or appliances. If extreme swelling occurs, advise patients to discontinue use immediately and consult you or other health care professionals.
• Because the flexible partial denture is worn in the mouth, accidental swallowing or aspiration of the appliance may occur and may be harmful if not immediately addressed.

Patients should follow your instructions carefully when wearing and caring for their flexible partial dentures. Failure to follow proper care and maintenance procedures can lead to damage or decreased effectiveness.

Directions for Use

To ensure proper use of the flexible partial denture, follow these steps:

• Before inserting the dentures, clean the patient’s mouth and gums with a soft-bristled toothbrush or oral rinse.
• Hold the partial denture by the edges and carefully place them into the patient’s mouth, using a rocking motion to ensure a secure fit.
• The patient should bite down and swallow to seat the partial denture properly.
• If necessary, use a denture adhesive to improve retention.

Cleaning instructions:

To clean the partial denture, patients should follow these steps:

• Remove the partial denture and rinse them under running water to remove loosen debris.
• Use a denture brush and denture cleanser to clean all surfaces of the partial denture.
• Rinse the partial denture thoroughly with water to remove any remaining cleanser.
• Do not use hot water or abrasive cleansers on the partial denture, as this may damage the material.

Storage instructions:

• Store the partial dentures in a clean, dry place when not in use. Avoid exposing the partial dentures to excessive heat or pressure, as this may cause warping or other damage.
• Partial dentures are designed to last for several years with proper care and maintenance. If the dentures become damaged or lose their fit, patients should contact your practice for evaluation and repair.
