Chairside Temporary (PMMA) Crown & Bridge Case Workflow

The following workflow applies to patients receiving a temporary (PMMA) crown and/or bridge.

The outline below is a step-by-step appointment guide for our PMMA temporary crown and/or bridge workflow. Please ensure you are also practicing our crown and bridge scanning best practices.

APPOINTMENT #1:

Step 1 - Choose the “Fixed Restorations” option when you go to set up your case

  • Within “Fixed Restorations,” select either “Crown” or “Bridge.”

Step 2 - You will then be prompted to select the tooth/teeth that will receive the temporary

Step 3 - Select “PMMA” as the desired material

Step 4 - Select the desired shade

Step 5 - Follow the scanning sequence:

  • Lower Arch > Upper Arch > Bite > Review scan > Submit order
  • These scans are of unprepped teeth.
  • We recommend selecting “Skip pre-prep” prior to scanning the arch for which these temporaries will be designed.

Step 6 - When prompted, mark the tooth/teeth that will receive the temporary/temporaries

Step 7 - Proceed to the “Ordering” menu

  • Add note that these scans are for PMMA temporaries.

Step 8 - Place your order

APPOINTMENT #2:

Step 1 - Choose the “Fixed Restorations” option when you go to set up your case

  • Within “Fixed Restorations,” select either “Crown” or “Bridge.”

Step 2 - You will then be prompted to select the tooth/teeth that will receive the crown/bridge

Step 3 - Select the desired material and shade from the subsequent menus

Step 4 - Follow the scanning sequence:

  • Lower Arch > Upper Arch > Bite > Prep Scan > Review scan > Submit order

Step 5 - When prompted, mark the tooth/teeth being prepped

Step 6 - Be sure that your scan of the crown prep captures a fully visible margin and both proximal contacts of the adjacent teeth

TIP: When beginning your scan of the crown prep, turn on the scanner over the occlusal surface of an adjacent tooth first, and then move the scanner over to the prep site slowly. If you can’t scan the posteriors, scan the anteriors.

Step 7 - Confirm your occlusal reduction on the “Review Scans” menu

Step 8 - Place your order

  • Additional photos are welcome but not required.

Step 9 - Using your Temporary (PMMA) order:

  • Reline crown as you normally would
  • Ensure proper seating and marginal integrity on the prep
  • Adjust occlusion if necessary
  • Use your preferred Temporary Cement
