Overview: This article provides instructions for using the Undercut Tool in Chairside to identify undercuts and define a path of insertion for crown preparations.
Accessing the Undercut Tool
Navigate to the Review Scan menu after completing the scanning process.
Select the Undercut button located at the bottom of the Review Scan page.
Setting the Path of Insertion
Rotate the digital scan to an occlusal view of the crown preparation.
Orient the crown preparation as close as possible to the anticipated path-of-insertion for the future crown.
Ensure the occlusal surface and the margins of the preparation are fully visible.
Select the Set Direction button once the scan is in the proper orientation.
Evaluating the Preparation for Undercuts
Rotate the scan to observe the blue patches appearing on the preparation.
Identify undercuts by locating these blue patches, which are calculated based on the path-of-insertion set in the previous steps.
Reference the long arrow on the screen, which represents the established path-of-insertion.
Verify that there is sufficient surface area above the blue patches to ensure proper proximal contacts for the restoration.
Exiting the Undercut Tool
Select the Undercut button again to close the tool and return to the main scanning menu.
