Overview: This guide provides step-by-step clinical instructions for creating a new complete denture using the wax rim workflow in Chairside.
Appointment 1
Start the denture order
Press Start on the Chairside Home screen.
Enter the patient's name.
If the patient is new, enter the patient's gender and birthday.
Select Dentures > Denture > A New Denture.
Answer No when asked if the patient has an existing denture and press Next.
Answer No when asked if the appliance is implant supported and press Next.
Select the arches required for the full denture, press Add to Order, and select Start Scanning.
Capture initial intraoral scans
Perform upper and lower intraoral scans.
Capture the depth of buccal and lingual vestibules, frena, hamular notches, and retromolar pads.
Capture the full palate including extension into the soft palate.
Submit the case to begin wax rim fabrication.
Alternative scanning for edentulous arches
If the lower arch is difficult to scan, take a standard impression.
Scan the intaglio surface and borders of the impression.
If the patient has existing teeth, pour a stone model and scan the stone model instead.
Appointment 2
Adjust the wax rim
Evaluate the fit and dimensions of the Dandy wax rim in the patient’s mouth.
Adjust the wax rim to achieve the correct Vertical Dimension of Occlusion (VDO), bite, and lip support.

Mark the wax bite rim with the patient’s:
Smile lines
Canine lines
Midlines
Cut notches in the occlusal surface to assist the 360-degree scan process.
Perform the wax rim scan
Select Continue Order from the green banner in the patient case.
Perform a 360-degree extraoral scan of the adjusted wax bite rims (with wash, if there are fit or anatomy-capturing issues).
Capture a bite registration scan with the wax rim in the patient's mouth.
Take a head-on photo of the patient smiling with the wax rim in place.
Take two profile photos with the patient smiling with the wax rim in place.
Submit the final order
Select Wax Rim Continuation during the submission process.
Complete the lab prescription for full dentures.
Select any necessary add-ons during the checkout process.
